Mrs. Caroline Manson, wife of the late General Mahlon D. Manson, departed this life at 12:30 o'clock last Saturday at the family residence on West Market Street. She has been in feeble health since the death of her husband in February 1895 and her demise was not unexpected. Apoplexy was the immediate cause of death. Caroline Mitchel (sic) was born in Cambden, Ohio, Nov 9, 1828. At the age of 8 years she removed with her parents to Crawfordsville and has since been a resident with the exception of two years spent in Indianapolis during which time General Manson served as auditor of state. On May 26, 1850, she was married to Mahlon D. Manson and to them were born six children: Laura Vanhook, deceased; Fred, William, Sarah Kerns of Findlay, O, Mattie and John of Terre Haute. - typed by kbz

Mrs. Caroline Manson, relict of General Mahlon D. Manson, died Saturday morning at 12:30 o’clock at her home on West Market Street. Mrs. Manson never rallied from the shock of her husband’s death, a year ago last February, and on several occasions since then her death was expected almost hourly. For the past four weeks she had been growing weaker and Friday evening was so perceptibly worse that her relatives were telegraphed to come.
Caroline Mitchell was the daughter of Samuel Mitchell and wife, and was born in Camden, Preble County, Ohio, November 7, 1828. When she was eight years of age her parents removed to Crawfordsville. Her father was a cabinet maker and died soon after locating here. His home was a neat cottage on East Main Street where Zeigler & Reimann’s place now is. It stood about twenty feet back from the street, the front yard being a perfect bower of vines, bushes and flowers. In this place General Manson conducted his courtship and here he and Miss Caroline Mitchell were married May 26, 1850, by Rev. C. K. Thompson. Mrs. Manson was a lifelong and consistent member of the M. E. Church.
Six children were born, all of whom except the eldest, Mrs. Laura Van Hook, survive. Those now living are Fred, William, Mrs. Kern, of Findlay, Ohio, Miss Martha and John, of Terre Haute. Mrs. Manson leaves one brother, Lafayette Mitchell, of Valparaiso.
Mrs. Manson’s life was a beautiful and busy one and she was loved and honored by all with whom she came in contact. She was a devout Christian, a loving mother, a kind neighbor and friend, and her life will long be remembered for the good there was in it.
The funeral occurred from the family residence on West Market Street, Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock. -s

The funeral of Mrs. Caroline Manson occurred from the family residence on West Market Street on Monday at 2:30 o’clock, Rev. Dr. S. V. Leech officiating. A large concourse of friends was in attendance and the floral offerings were many and beautiful. The interment occurred at the Oak Hill Cemetery, the body being laid to rest beside that of Gen. M. D. Manson. -s
